Parental Involvement in Practice

Students progress significantly faster when parents are actively involved in their daily practice routine. If your child is under 13, please commit to holding them accountable for consistent, structured practice each day. Your support plays a crucial role in their musical development.

Required Equipment

To ensure effective practice and progress, all students must have access to:

  • An 88-key piano or keyboard at home, preferably with weighted keys.

  • A phone tripod capable of being positioned to provide a clear view of the student’s posture, hand positioning, and pedaling during online lessons.

Having the proper equipment is essential for a productive learning experience.

Studio Environment & Childcare Considerations

My 2-year-old daughter may occasionally be present during piano lessons. While she is rarely disruptive, please be aware that there is a strict no-touch policy—students should not touch or interact with her physically.

In the event of a childcare emergency requiring my brief attention, students should use this time productively by practicing their assigned material. I appreciate your patience and understanding as I balance both teaching and family responsibilities.

Books and Materials

Students must bring all necessary materials to each lesson, including:

  • Lesson books

  • Assignment notebook

  • Any supplemental materials as needed

To keep materials organized and easily accessible, I recommend using a dedicated book bag for lessons.

Arrival & Punctuality Policy

  • Arrival: Please do not enter the house until two minutes before your scheduled lesson time.

  • Late Arrivals: If you arrive late, lesson time will not be extended, as this would affect the next student’s appointment.

  • Transition Time: Each lesson will end two minutes early to allow for a smooth transition between students.

  • Class Start Time: Lessons and classes begin promptly as scheduled.

Punctuality ensures that all students receive their full lesson time and helps maintain an efficient schedule.

Tuition and Payment

All tuition payments are processed through Fons, my billing and scheduling platform. To ensure seamless and timely payments, families are required to set up automatic monthly payments within the platform.

  • Billing Date: Tuition will be automatically charged on the 15th of the month prior (e.g., February tuition is charged on January 15th).

  • Payment Method: Payments must be set up through Fons’ automated billing system.

  • Non-Refundable: Tuition is non-refundable, as your child’s lesson time is reserved exclusively for them.

By enrolling in lessons, you agree to these payment terms. If you have any questions or need assistance setting up payments, please reach out.

Attendance

To foster an effective learning environment, parents are asked not to attend lessons, as children often behave differently in their presence. Building a strong rapport with each student is essential to their progress.

If siblings will be present during lessons, please provide them with a quiet activity. If they are unable to remain quiet, they will not be permitted to stay in the studio.

For the well-being of all students and my family, please do not send your child to lessons if they have a contagious illness, head lice, or bed bugs. A mild sniffle or runny nose is generally acceptable, but if a student arrives visibly contagious, I reserve the right to end the lesson immediately. Parents will be contacted for pickup, and the lesson will be forfeited.

Student Behavior Expectations

A cooperative attitude is essential for learning. With 17 years of teaching experience, I am accustomed to redirecting students’ attention as needed. However, if a student:

  • Refuses to cooperate after redirection

  • Displays violent behavior of any kind

  • Talks back to the teacher

  • Purposefully damages studio or personal property

I reserve the right to end the lesson immediately. Parents will be contacted for pickup, and the lesson will be forfeited.

These policies ensure a positive, productive, and respectful learning environment for all students.

Missed Lesson Policy

If you are unable to attend a private lesson, I am happy to reschedule with at least 72 hours' notice, provided I have an available opening that week. You also have the option to switch to a virtual lesson at any time.

Rescheduling is not available for group classes, as each class type is offered only once per week. If your child will be absent, please notify me in advance.

Please note that missed lessons are non-refundable and non-creditable. If a student is more than 15 minutes late, the lesson is considered missed. Regardless of whether you reschedule, switch to a virtual lesson, or decline these options, you are still responsible for the tuition payment, as your child's lesson time is reserved for the full month.

Teacher Absence

If I am contagious but able to teach, lessons will be held virtually that day. I have scheduled specific weeks off to account for any illnesses that prevent me from teaching.

When a lesson is canceled, we will exchange videos using the Practice Space app. Students should record and upload their practice videos, and I will provide feedback along with new material when I am able.

  • Policy updates will be sent via email and/or posted in the studio’s communication platform.

  • By continuing studio membership, families agree to adhere to the most current policies.
